In hindsight, Nawaz Sharif’s decision to be at the Modi’s oath-taking ceremony appears to have been a move based purely on extreme goodwill. Perhaps, he, like many others, had expected Modi to behave differently after becoming prime minister. After all, there are serious issues involved with the job of a prime minister. However, Modi is sticking to his old guns. Indian diplomacy seems clad in the same armour which has been the hallmark of Modi’s rise to power. It seems either Modi lacks the material statesmen are made of or he has failed to bury his past.
The Indian prime minister needs to be transported to the real world. The world of sovereign states where serious attempts to uphold international laws are made every day. Modi should realise that he frequently exhibits conduct unbecoming of a statesman and what takes generations to build can be destroyed in days.
