KARACHI: Pakistan table tennis squad is expected to be issued Indian visas on Monday (tomorrow) for featuring in the South Asian Cadets and Juniors Table Tennis Championship to be held in Delhi from June 17 to 19.
“On Monday the visa process will be completed and we will get the passports,” an official of Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) told ‘The News’ on Saturday.
Pakistan will be fielding 13 players including four Under-18 boys and as many U18 girls and three Under-15 boys and two U15 girls. The top two teams will make it to the Asian Junior Table Tennis Championships which will be held in Kuala Lumpur at the end of July.
“The whole lot is young and is being tested for the first time. Sri Lanka also have a new squad and we are hopeful we would be able to qualify for the Asian Junior Championships,” the PTTF official said.
The squad will proceed to Delhi via Wagah border on June 16. Interestingly, no observer of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) will accompany the squad.
The PTTF is also expected to get clearance for the tour from PSB on Monday. Pakistan is also planning to field a side in the ITTF Junior Circuit in China from June 23. “It’s details would soon be released,” a PTTF official said.
