Sindh’s governor said on Monday that in September this year Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate majority of the federal government-funded development projects being constructed across Karachi.
Imran Ismail made the announcement while talking to the media during his visit to the Numaish intersection, where he inspected the work being carried out on the second phase of the corridor being built for the Green Line section of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS).
The governor was earlier briefed by the officials of the Karachi Infrastructure Development Company about the development projects being constructed in the metropolis with the financial assistance of the federal administration.
These projects include the reconstruction of the 8.1km Manghopir Road from Jam Chakro to Banaras Chowk along with the revamping of the defective water supply line that frequently damaged the road infrastructure of the area in the past. Other Centre-funded projects in Karachi are the reconstruction of Nishtar Road and the construction of flyovers at the Sakhi Hassan, Five Star and KDA roundabouts.
Governor Ismail expressed his satisfaction over the current pace of the construction work being carried out to complete these development projects. He said that the prime minister is in the practice of frequently asking about the status of these projects, adding that the PM himself is satisfied with the development works being carried out by the federal government in Karachi.
Ismail said that the best of the efforts are being made to ensure timely completion of the federally funded development projects in the metropolis, including the Green Line bus service. The governor said that the federal administration will continue to provide the best assistance for the development of Karachi as it considers the city the economic backbone of the country.
He said that the federal government will soon start the tender process for purchasing fire engines to resolve the problems of fire brigade in the city. Ismail said that the Centre has decided to provide buses for the under-construction Green Line section of the BRTS in Karachi after sensing that the first mass transit project of the city is getting delayed due to the Sindh government.
He said that the PM, during his upcoming visit to Sindh, will announce a comprehensive package that includes the issuance of health insurance card facility for the residents of five selected districts of the province. The governor said that the federal administration will not exercise any sort of discrimination in the issuance of the health insurance cards, adding that the cards will be issued to the residents of the deserving areas of Sindh wherever they are required in the province.
