This week You! takes a look at some of the latest spring beauty trends from the recently held solo show at FPW...
As soon as spring rolls around, you’ll find yourself thinking about changing your wardrobe and look up for the hot new trends. Unfortunately for us, spring is only here for a brief while before the long summers take over. In that case, we wonder what trends will still be relevant from the previous year or even the season. There are some trends that will definitely be present in this spell, whereas from some we will take a break.
Recently, Fashion Pakistan Week (FPW) was held in Karachi where designers showcased their Spring/Summer collection for 2019. Day 1 of the three-day event was a solo show by Sana Safinaz. Their collection, inspired by imagery from Iqbal’s ‘Payaam-i-Mashriq’ had a perfect mixed palette with a spectrum of colours.
It featured details such as heavy embellishment of rhinestones, delicate silk floss thread work, and colours such as blush, deep reds, and subtle pastels juxtaposed with renditions of flora and fauna in modern cuts and silhouettes. While the runway showcased what’s coming next in fashion, we picked up on some trends that would be a total hit with all the girls out there...
When you think of spring, one immediately thinks of the fresh-faced glow. As the weather warms up, a fresh face feels good to wear and looks aesthetically pleasing to others as well. For the ramp, stylist Samiya Ansari kept the look pretty simple and to the point for every model. It was a very fresh, young, nude, light and nothing too much. To achieve this glow, the stylist recommends, “The best thing to do is take care of your skin. Right before the makeup, I always tell people to put some primer on or some kind of a moisturiser that will keep their skin hydrated. And when you go for a layer of base, make sure it’s not cakey. You have to make sure that it’s just one layer which really helps blend it all in. As for the highlighter, just put it on the right spots, don’t overdo it. Just brush it once over your cheeks, just a dot on your chin, over your nose and just a little dot on your forehead. That just really helps accentuating the right features. It gives a flawless dewy look. And when you end your makeup, it’s very pertinent to use a setting spray like Urban Decay or Mac. I love using post makeup skin hydrating sprays; it helps give a really nice subtle dewy look.”
When we talk about the nude lip, it isn’t just for those who prefer a subtle finish or a toned-down makeup look; it’s actually a great option for night-time beauty looks, as well as for those glam special occasions. For the solo show, stylist Samiya Ansari kept the colours uniform throughout with matte nude pinks. However, you could spot a few glossy peaches to complement the skin tone of the model. This is one trend that will be sticking around for a really long time because it suits every occasion in every season.
According to Samiya, the smokey eyes had been done to death so they needed something fresh to work with, so she went with a nice thick liner over the lids with nude eyes. Not only does it look stunning, it is also one of the easier looks to achieve. Whether you are in a hurry or aren’t that great with makeup, this look is a piece of cake to create. “After your base, you can use something from Anastasia Beverly Hills, Mac or a really light nude eye shadow and cover your whole crease with it. Then go for a liner. You can go for a rounded liner to give your eyes a fuller bigger look or a straight liner which tends give out a vixen vibe compared to a round one,” suggests Samiya.
While a top knot or a neat bun looks elegant, this season is all about the texture of your hair. On the ramp, the models were seen in soft curls which looked perfect for a casual or a formal event. “Since the collection was bohemian chic, we thought it would be best to give some nice wavy hair but not like the typical ringy curls. We wanted it to be more like beachy waves that would fly and it looked pretty amazing. Some of them we styled in scarves and for some we had tight ponies but for all of them we made sure it had bohemian chic waves. For some we also had tied up hair, but it was all very loosely tied to give that dreamy vibe,” explains Samiya.
With the Bohemian chic theme, the accessories were also retro inspired and just like a lot of the retro styles, bandanas are back! The cool thing about these is that they are like a rescue ranger for your bad hair days. Not just that, they double up as accessories and more. Floral prints and dark neon colours are quite a hip trend to pick up on when it comes to it. You can use your scarves and style them around messy hair which will make your look effortless yet chic. Another accessory that caught our eye (literally) were the ‘70s round glasses. They actually look very cool if you go for the thin metal frames.
If you love ethnic jewellery, the good news is that it will always stay in fashion. However, since we’re taking a lot of inspiration from the yesteryears, we’re bringing back the traditional heavy jewellery pieces. Pearl necklaces look spectacular when harmonised with traditional wear but just wearing statement earrings can also add oomph to your look. Lustrous sea pearls when stringed with uncut diamonds, kundan work, gold and emeralds are classy as always, which can be paired with any formal attire either to look dressed up or dressed down.
