LAHORE: Albayrak Waste Management Company in collaboration with the LWMC has introduced the waste segregation system at union council level.

A ceremony to introduce multicolored waste containers was held in Mian Mir area. Albayrak Senior Manager Operations Mahmut Oztunc and officials of the LWMC were present. The three colored waste containers would be used to separately collect different types of waste. Yellow containers would be used for disposal of municipal waste, green containers for organic & green waste whereas red containers for disposal of hazardous & toxic waste. Speaking on the occasion, Albayrak spokesperson said waste segregation was the preliminary step towards recycling of waste. Albayrak would take every possible step to bring improvement in the waste management sector in Pakistan.

GCU chemical science moot: A three-day second international conference on “Recent Advances in Chemical Science’’ began at the Government College University Lahore on Wednesday under the auspices of the university’s Chemistry Department and Pakistan Institute of Chemists.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah chaired the inaugural ceremony which was also addressed by Pakistan Institute of Chemists US Chapter President Dr Shuja Zaidi and GCU Department of Chemistry Chairperson Prof Dr Adnan Ahmad. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Adnan said the objective of the conference was to gather people working at different frontiers of chemical sciences, so that they could share their ideas to develop technologies to better utilise indigenous resources for sustainable development. Dr Shuja highlighted the importance of developing indigenous technologies for the economic prosperity of a country. Prof Hassan said industries must cooperate with universities for research and developing new technologies. As many as 20 papers are scheduled to be presented at the three-day conference.
