ISLAMABAD: Thumb fracture has forced ageing all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez to retire from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) underway in UAE.

Hafeez fractured his thumb while playing for Lahore Qalandars against Karachi Kings on Saturday.

Lahore Qalandars administration revealed on Monday that the all-rounder who was leading the team had been ruled out of action for the next two months. That means Hafeez is now a doubtful starter for the One-Day series against Australia and later for the World Cup.

Lahore Qalandars will now be led by AB de Villiers in rest of the fourth edition. No replacement has so far been named for Hafeez.
