PU postpones exam

LAHORE: Punjab University has postponed the MA/MSc part-II supplementary examination 2018, being conducted on February 18 at three centres including Federal Government Post Graduate College for Women, Kashmir Road A & B Rawalpindi and Government College Satellite Town (combined), due to declaration of local holiday by the deputy commissioner Rawalpindi.

The examinations will be held on February 28. The timings and the place of examination will remain the same. Seminar: Post Graduate Medical Institute Principal Prof Mohammad Tayyab has called upon the medical professionals to put all efforts on modern research to save youth from cancer.

He expressed these views while addressing a seminar held at pediatric department on the eve of international cancer day. Head of the department Prof Agha Shabbir Ali, Medical Superintendent Dr Mahmud Salah-ud-din, Director Admin Dr Rana Muhammad Shafiq, Dr Muhammad Faryad, Dr Muzamil Azam, Dr Nighat, Dr Humaira, doctors, nurses, children and their parents were also present.

Prof Tayyab said in Punjab induction of health cards would facilitate the needy ones in getting free treatment of fatal diseases. He said infant mortality rate in Pakistan was high. He said cancer was much a fatal disease but we should encourage those who were facing it.

The principal PGMI said substandard eatables and changing environment were the major reasons to make the situation worsen. He called upon the medical experts to utilise all resources to prepare the young doctors as per the requirements and review the reasons behind diseases like cancer. Addressing the seminar, Prof Agha said in the present age, cancer could be treated and this disease should be taken with courage and determination. Gifts were also distributed among 20 children who have recovered from cancer. A question answer session was also held in the end.

convocation: The full dress rehearsal of Punjab University’s 128th convocation will be held on February 22 at 8am at Faisal Auditorium in which student’s participation is a must. Invitation cards have been sent to students.

The students who have not received the invitation cards may contact the university’s examination department. The position holder students of BS, MA/ MSc, MPhil and PhD session 2018 will be bestowed medals and degrees. The convocation will be held on February 23.

heritage: Members of special team of experts constituted under the directions of the Supreme Court in Orange Line Metro Train Project case visited Veterinary University and Government Islamia College, Lahore, both special premises, under the Special Premises Ordinance 1985.

In detailed rounds of the premises, the members of the team noticed some deficiencies and fault lines in these special premises and impressed upon the authorities concerned to take remedial measures for the protection, preservation and conservation of the heritage sites in line with the judgment of the Supreme Court.
