This was stated by Chinese Consul General in Karachi Wang Yu as he met Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani. The meeting discussed the political situation of the country, development works being carried out in Karachi and rest of the province, other development projects, and matters of mutual interest.

The local government minister briefed the Chinese envoy about development schemes being implemented in the province, ongoing development projects of the local government department and efforts of the provincial department to ensure sanitation facilities in the province.

The Chinese consul general appreciated the efforts being made by the provincial local government department to ensure provision of civic services to the people of Sindh. Later, Ghani met the president of the SITE Super Highway Association of Industries, Raja Muhammad Ilyas, and discussed the civic issues of the industrial estate.

The provincial government had been trying its best to ensure sufficient water supply to the industrial estates of the city, the local government minister said. He added that residential areas of the city were being supplied water on a preferential basis as Karachi had been facing 50 per cent water shortage owing to phenomenal difference between the water demand and supply. Various resources were being utilised to supply water to industrial zones of Karachi, the minister said.

Ghani informed the industrial association president that the Sindh government had been working on the K-IV bulk water supply scheme and S-III drainage scheme for the city but various problems had emerged in the way of these schemes owing to the non-cooperation by the federal government. He, however, asserted that the provincial government would utilise all its resources to complete the two projects.

The local government minister also met a delegation of the Karachi Goods Carriers’ Association led by its president Rana Muhammad Aslam. The delegation urged the minister to take action against the menacing problem of encroachments in the Hawke’s Bay Truck Stand area. Ghani assured them that he would issue directives to the Karachi mayor and relevant officials of the District Municipal Corporation to carry out an anti-encroachment drive in the locality.

The delegation also thanked Ghani for taking personal interest in ensuring sanitation and provision of civic services in the areas around Hawke’s Bay Truck Stand.
