The former chief justice of Pakistan had rightly said that as the country’s “water resources continue to dwindle, our population (human) resources continue to expand relentlessly”. Bangladesh has a population of around 162 million whereas Pakistan is home to an estimated 212 million people. Today, Bangladesh is better than Pakistan in terms of its economic gains, foreign exchange reserves, FDI, population control and societal stability. Our ruling elite should learn a lesson from Bangladesh.
The government should also devise a national population strategy to deal with the problem of unabated population growth.
