Hello Editor,
Like always, I truly enjoyed reading the last issue of 2018. The cover story “MMXVIII the happiness deficient year” by Sameen Amer was a special one! It was definitely a thought-provoking commentary on the events of 2018.
However, I disagree with some of the ideas mentioned in the article. My question is: why are we so obsessed with Jamal Khashoggi’s murder? We all know how world politics work! People who try to speak up and challenge authority are always treated like this. We should be more concerned about the extreme cruelty people face in Pakistan.
And also you should have highlighted youth-related events of the year 2018.

Hi Ed,
I came across the list of events in your city files section (Jan 4) and wondered if Us only represents Karachi. Please cover stories from other parts of Pakistan as well.

Dear Ed,
“Stick to beat with” by Nabeel Naqvi (Muhammad Nabeel) was a great round-up of sports in 2018. As usual, Nabeel managed to encapsulate in the meager space you assign him all the important sports events. Bravo Nabeel, you are really great!

Save trees, save environment
Hi Eddy,
I am glad The Capital Development Authority’s Environment Wing took notice of the cutting of a 50-year-old eucalyptus tree in F-6 Islamabad and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the person who cut it. This has set an example for all of us; I hope we show some kindness and save our trees.

Query
Hi Ed,
I must say Andaleeb Tariq, Narmeen Allahwala, Khayam Nasir, Naeema Yahya are brilliant artists. I have pasted some of my favourite drawings on the side of my table. But the paper quality of Us magazine is not very good and doesn’t complement artists’ work on the last page. Please do something about it.
I have observed that for the last few weeks you’re not publishing art mart. We can see photos of buildings and others monuments on internet as well. Please have more space for art mart in the magazine.

Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W) said, “There is a sadaqa to be given for every joint of the human body; and for every day on which the sun rises there is a reward of a sadaqa (i.e. charitable gift) for the one who establishes justice among people.”
