Neelam Muneer-starrer Dil Mom Ka Diya – directed by Shahid Shafaat – that was one of the most watched TV plays this season, came to an end earlier this week. Just like the play was realistic in its treatment of plot and characters, the ending was quite believable and convincing too. After the final episode aired on Tuesday night, social media was flooded with praise and appreciation for the project as well as the actors involved, particularly Neelam.

Neelam as the fair and beautiful but cunning, self-centered and cold-hearted Ulfat brought viewers to tears in the last episode, despite her negativity throughout the play. Ulfat was married to a really good and pious man Afzal, brilliantly essayed by Yasir Nawaz, but since he was average-looking and was a few years older than her, she was never attracted to him. She was thankless despite all the love he showered upon her and she ruined the lives of many around her, including her sisters as well as Afzal’s siblings. She forcefully sought divorce from Afzal, leaving behind two kids who she didn’t care about either.

Upon learning that Afzal has remarried, Ulfat was quick to marry again. Her second husband was rich, good looking, slightly younger than her but he wasn’t a good human being. He abused her, mistreated her and never respected her. Sometime later, he was diagnosed with mouth cancer but Ulfat had no choice other than staying with him because she had wronged everyone who stood by her at some point.

What goes around comes around and poetic justice does rear its head every now and then. Out of all the people in the world, Ulfat ended up seeking financial help from Afzal for the treatment of her second husband, who was in severe pain. Afzal, who never hated Ulfat for what she did to him and his family, lent her the money without a second thought.

Dil Mom Ka Diya came across as a much-needed morally-relevant play amidst multiple socially-relevant projects currently dominating our TV screens. It dropped several important lessons throughout and the final episode was brilliant, leading everyone to where they belonged and giving them what they deserved. Moral of the story: those who harm others can never be truly happy while those who never wrong anyone ultimately find peace and happiness.

All the actors including Neelam, Yasir, Imran Ashraf, Hira Mani, Hassam Khan, Alizeh Shah and others brought their A-game to the table, making the play a success.
