Aziz Jindani’s The Donkey King has been ruling the box office since its release across Pakistan on October 13. Now in its fifth week, The Donkey King is still on a roll and has raked in a whopping total of 18 crores, setting a new benchmark for animations.
The film broke all previous box office records for an animated film produced in Pakistan, by collecting 4 crores in the first week. The Donkey King collectively raked in over 10 crores in its second and third week and in the fourth week it generated around 2.55 crores.
The good news is that the animated film is still going strong and has sustained the numbers despite the release of Thugs of Hindostan featuring Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif, which took the most number of shows from the animated production.
According to Entertainment Pakistan, The Donkey King has approximately collected 1.3 crores in its fifth week, creating a new history record and has become the highest grossing animated movie of the year, leaving behind Pakistani blockbusters such as Punjab Nahi Jaungi, Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 and Parwaaz Hai Junoon. The site also stated that the animated film will most probably reach 20 crores by the coming week and that it is the first animated film to cross the 15-crore mark.
Released under the banner of Geo Films, The Donkey King follows the story of Mangu, a donkey who in a stroke of luck becomes king, is running successfully in cinemas.
