FM Qureshi meets Afghan President in Kabul

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Saturday arrived in Kabul on his first visit abroad.

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Saturday arrived in Kabul on his first visit abroad.

Qureshi led a delegation to hold talks with Afghan officials in a frist bilateral dialoguesince December 2015.

According to Geo News correspondent, Shah Mehmood Qureshi held one one one meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani at the Presidential Palace.

Ashraf Ghani congratulated Shah Mehmood Qureshi over his party's victory in the election.

The delegation level meeting was also held between the two sides that discussed bilateral trade, peace in Afghanistan and issue of closure of Pakistani consulate in Afghan city of Jalalabad , the TV channel reported.

Earlier in the day, Foreign Office Spokesman Dr Muhammad Faisal said in a statement that the foreign minister's visit underlies the importance government attaches to work closely with Afghanistan for regional peace and stability.

He said the the successful outcome to the visit will lead future efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation under bilateral frameworks of cooperation including APAPPS (Afghanistan-Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity), APTTCA (Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit Trade Coordination Authority and JEC (Joint Economic Commission)
