Former Miss Universe and actress Sushmita Sen has had an important contribution to the Indian film industry and she remains an inspiration even today. With numerous credible projects attached to her name, the diva has been a beauty idol for many young actresses that came after her. However, it has not been an easy journey for Sushmita to remain fit and look beautiful along with all her responsibilities and commitments.
Speaking to attendees at a recent event, she informed that she too had a period when she put on weight and was being pointed fingers at.“I had four years of that,” she responded when asked if she ever felt conscious of her weight. “I was one of those brilliant people who put on weight and then went on national TV and did a show with Wasim Akram. I was superbly overweight. It became like national news; I could see those tickers under the news channel stating, ‘Have you seen Sushmita Sen?’”
She went on to say that she learnt something during that time. “I will lose the weight but what are we going to do about the character everyone lost during the process,” she added. “I think body shaming is not a cool concept. I’ve never liked it. It’s important to recognize that you are going to have dips in your life and you are never going to be consistently perfect.”
The actress also shared that people have genetic issues, health conditions and it is very easy to judge them instead of letting them enjoy their lives. She didn’t feel nice when she was targeted but it brought her back to recognizing the fact that she is a strong woman and her strength is something that can’t be ‘seen’.
Towards the end, she also said that she is glad to see that the new generation of actors is more concerned about fitness than being thin.
