This refers to the letter, ‘Yemen mediation’ (April 9) by Ambassador (r) Javed Hafiz. The writer rightly argued that Pakistan has not been invited to mediate between the warring parties in the Yemen conflict and that even if invited we will create more controversy than finding a solution. Our possible role to bring Iran and Saudi Arabia closer to a resolution will backfire because Islamabad is not considered neutral by Tehran.
Our so-called leaders do not understand the meaning of dialogue, mediation and reconciliation. Without a neutral and independent policy the current chatter about mediation is ridiculous and redundant. The writer deserves praise for his sound judgement.
