Theatre play Daastan-E-Ishq premieres in Karachi

After a successful private show for the British High Commission, theatre production Daastan-E-Ishq returns to the stage amidst much applause. It premiered at the Karachi Arts Council on June 29 with the cast and crew in attendance.

The play follows the folktale of Heer and Ranjha and received a lot of appreciation from those in attendance including celebrities, media representatives and others. The tragic tale of love was narrated well and the brilliant music helped enhance the overall feel.

Originally written by Waris Shah, the script was adapted and written by Zarqa Naz who has also directed the project. The cast includes Umair Rafiq who features as Ranjha, Sabiha Zia as Heer, and the antagonist Qaido, essayed by Sameer Hussain. The narration was done by Akbar Ladhani, who stars as Raavi while the play was executed in collaboration with Green Eye Production.

Speaking on the occasion, Umair Rafiq of Green Eye Production noted, “I want to make my country proud by becoming a trendsetter and promoting our traditions, content, culture and its people, not just within the country, but abroad as well.”

The play will run till July 8 at the Arts Council, Karachi.
