Save the children

It is deplorable that millions of children in our country are working under subhuman conditions. It is equally pitiful that the authorities concerned have not taken steps to ensure that children are saved from this exploitation. Profiteers pay a paltry sum to these children and make them work from dawn to dusk. From hotels to mechanic shops, these children can be seen working tirelessly. We always talk about how poverty is the primary cause of child labour.

But it is shameful that we have not done anything to counter poverty. Development projects or other mega projects will have no real significance in our country if our children aren’t promised a better future. When will our leaders see that our children are being deprived of their childhood? At an age where children should be learning the alphabets, they are learning about the harsh realities of life. It is time the government took action to put an end to child labour.
