This refers to the news story, ‘Two death row prisoners hanged in Faisalabad jail’ (March 12). They were convicted of rape and murder. It is very rare that criminals who murder their victims after committing rape are given the death penalty. Mostly criminals of such heinous crimes are freed on one plea or the other.
In this regard, the PM’s decision to lift the ban on death penalty in other cases after lifting the moratorium on capital punishment in terrorist-related cases is indeed a courageous step. The crime rate will certainly come down if criminals are punished as per the Pakistan Penal Code.
