Nanditas Das’ upcoming biopic Manto – that chronicles the life of late, Indo-Pak Urdu literature giant Saadat Hasan Manto – has been selected to screen at the Cannes Film Festival which will start on May 8.
The film will compete under the Un Certain Regard section, with this being the movie's premiere as it has not been released in India yet.
To share the news, Nawazuddin Siddiqui who is playing the iconic protagonist, tweeted:
“And it is possible that Saadat Hasan dies, but MANTO remains alive”. Glad to inform that ‘MANTO’ is selected for competition at #Cannes2018 in #UnCertainRegard section. Congratulations nanditadas and Team #Manto."
Director Nandita Das who was in Pakistan recently to attend Pakistan International Film Festival also took to Twitter and Facebook to express her joy with her fans.
The period drama, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui along with various renowned actors such as Paresh Rawal, Rishi Kapoor and others, is all set to hit screens sometime this year.
