Ending atrocities

Indian occupied forces have once again wreaked havoc with the lives of Kashmiris on Sunday as 20 people were martyred and another 200 were injured in one of the deadliest clashes in the recent history of the occupied valley. The carnage is a glaring example of the fact that the violation of human rights in the region has become the norm of the day. All forms of persecution tactics are being used against Kashmiris, but the world community has turned a blind eye to these cruelties. From pellet guns, to illegal detentions, and even extrajudicial killings, every known atrocity is being perpetrated by Indian forces against Kashmiris. Last year, they tied a man to the front of an army jeep to be used as a human shield against protesters hurling stones at the vehicle.

The reason behind the criminal silence on the part of the global community is that these countries are eyeing the burgeoning Indian market to secure their business interests. The US has already absolved itself of resolving the longstanding Kashmir dispute by calling the issue a regional conflict between the two neighbouring countries. Furthermore, India has no respect for UN resolutions regarding the peaceful solution of the Kashmir conundrum. It goes without saying that the just struggle for freedom cannot be muzzled through the use of force. The Indian government must sense the gravity of the situation and stop the mindless massacre of the inhabitants of the occupied territory. Human rights activists must also intervene to alleviate the suffering of the people of Kashmir.
