Ashiq lifts National Amateur Golf crown

ISLAMABAD: Ashiq Hussain stayed cool to lift the coveted 57th National Amateur Golf title at the PAF Course in Peshawar on Sunday.

Going into last round Ashiq had a four-stroke lead. However, he saved his worst for the last as he had a poor six over 78 on the final day, still enough to give him the trophy on four over 292 gross. His closest rival Ahmad Baig finished with 295 gross. Though Ahmad had a good chance of overpowering Ashiq on the last day, he also carded a poor five over 77 for the last day to help Ashiq take the crown.

Ghazanfar Mehmood carded three under 69 which was not enough to win him the title but a good enough to earn him third spot in amateur gross event. He aggregated nine over 297 for four days to finish third.

Mohammad Rehman, Taimoor Khan and Khushal Khan all ended the four-day proceedings on 300 thus getting fourth, fifth and sixth positions respectively.

Kabir Ahmad (286), Khalid Mehmood (287) and Inyatullah Yousafzai (287) finished one, two and three in amateur net category.

Imran Ahmad (228) won senior gross category with Col Rustam Ali Chatta (231) and Lt Col Waqar Ahmad (233) ending up second and third respectively.

Lt Col Waqar also won seniors net with aggregate score of 209 followed by Maj Shoaibuddin (218) and Mansoor Ali Khan (219).

Hamna Amjad scooped up ladies gross title with score of 223 followed by Rimsha Ijaz (225) and Parkha Ijaz (232).

Ladies net title was won by Hamna Amjad (202) with Rimsha (204) and Suneyah Osama (206) finishing second and third respectively.

Punjab also claimed inter-association men’s title with an aggregate score of 464 followed by Federal Area team with the score of 489. Governor KP Iqbal Zafar Jhagra was the guest of honour and distributed prizes among the winners.
