Graduates awarded degrees at PICO second convocation

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Institute of Community Ophthalmology (PICO), Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar held 2nd convocation in Khyber Medical University.

Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra attended the event as chief guest and awarded degrees to the graduates.

Vice-Chancellor Khyber Medical University Prof Arshad Javaid and other professionals from medical healthcare and education community, parents, students and dignitaries form all

walk of life attended the convocation.

The governor in his address congratulated the graduates, faculty members and wished them for their better and successful future.

He also appreciated the services and achievements of PICO for eye health care in the provinces. He stressed that good and friendly attitude towards the patients would help to restore faith in medical profession. “Knowledge is a powerful agent of change and the creation and application of new knowledge has to be contributed for the growth of societies and for the welfare of the people,” he added.

He also encouraged youth to take steps forward and utilise their abilities and strength to their maximum to eradicate poverty, injustice from the society and lead the country to prosperous destiny.

The KMU vice-chancellor also addressed the audience and appreciated graduated students for their academic achievements.

At the end, Director, PICO, Prof. Dr. Nasir Saeed, presented the annual report highlighting the achievements of the institute in the year 2017. At the ceremony, 14 gold medals and 50 degrees were awarded to the graduates.

In addition, two retired ophthalmologists, Prof Shad Mohammad and Prof Aman Khan were also awarded Life Time Achievement Awards for their contribution to the field of ophthalmology in the province.
