Imran Khan said his party would try to stonewall attempts by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in its efforts to elect a Senate chairman from the PML-N.

Speaking to media persons at the Balochistan House here after meeting a delegation of the newly-elected independent senators from Balochistan, led by Balochistan chief minister, Imran Khan wished that the next Senate chairman should be from Balochistan.

In order to address the grievances of Balochistan, the deprived province must be given the opportunity. Therefore, he said, the PTI has decided to hand over its Senate seats to the Balochistan chief minister. “The PML-N is hell bent upon crippling the state institutions andit is committed to safeguard Sharif mafia’s corruption. We are concerned that if the Senate chairman is from the PML-N, they may enact laws to safeguard the Sharif family from the charges of corruption they face,” he explained.

Moreover, Imran congratulated Mir Quddus Bizenjo on his election as chief minister. He lauded him for the historic in-house change in the Balochistan Assembly. The Balochistan chief minister thanked the PTI chairman for extending support at this juncture.

Earlier, in a series of tweets, the PTI chairman lauded Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police for succeeding in the arrest of the main accused in the Mashal Khan murder case. “This is how a professional and depoliticised police force works, in contrast with the politicised police forces of Punjab and Sindh; he concluded.

In a message on the World Women Day, he said “today, I want to reiterate the PTI’s commitment to fight for women’s right. We reaffirm our pledge to make women an equal and integral part of our development journey. The dream of progress in Pakistan’s politics and economy will not be fulfilled unless women are given an equal role,” said Imran.

He stated that women’s involvement is indispensable to the process of building a more equitable and free society, and a more powerful and prosperous country. “No nation can make progress if women don’t participate in nation-building,” said the PTI chairman.
