Many areas in Karachi are facing an acute shortage of water. Defence, Lyari, Gulistan-e-Johar, Landhi, Malir and Korangi are worst affected. A society faces major setback when the basic needs of the people are not meant and they are left helpless. Despite living in the mega city, citizens of Karachi cannot enjoy their right to pure water. For days, taps remain dry and residents have to buy water from the tanker mafia. When the supply is restored, citizens are left to deal with another problem: the supply of contaminated water laced with dirt and other harmful pollutants.
On the other hand, this situation has allowed profiteers to make even more money by selling water tankers at exorbitant prices. Under such circumstances, it is the responsibility of the Sindh government to take immediate steps and resolve the problem. The provision of basic facilities to the people should be top priority of the government.
