Sindh sanctions development schemes worth Rs2.8 billion

KARACHI: The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) of Sindh has approved 31 development schemes worth Rs2.8 billion, officials said on Friday.

“The schemes have been sanctioned for the departments of work and services, health, local government, irrigation, culture, tourism & antiquities, home department, auqaf, zakat, religious affairs & usher, and population welfare,” an official at the concerned department told The News.

“A PDWP meeting, held under the chair of Mohammad Waseem, chairman planning and development board, approved the schemes for the current fiscal year (2017-18).”

Giving a breakup, the official said seven schemes were approved for local government, ten for works & services, while four plans were given go-ahead for irrigation department.

“A project worth Rs653.391 million has been green-signaled for the improvement of old national highway passing through Ali Wahan town,” the provincial functionary highlighted.

The official further said two of the three schemes passed for culture and tourism department involved preservation and promotion of protected archaeological sites/monuments at a cost of Rs991.05 million and construction of public library with an auditorium in Kunri, district Umerkot for which Rs63.745 million has been allocated.

“Moreover, a scheme worth Rs299.345 million was also authorised for auqaf, zakat, and religious affairs and usher department, to boost the security of shrines in Sindh,” the official added.

According to the official, the chairman, during the meeting, stressed on all the administrative secretaries to ensure timely completion of the schemes without any compromise on the quality.​
