The Pakistani society is divided into the haves and have-not. The law in the country is only for the poor and the unprivileged. Powerful criminals guilty of violent crimes are roaming free, while those who have no resources serve their entire lives in jail for petty crimes. That the country is devoid of equal justice is the main reason behind the lack of
confidence of the nation in the government.
The recent murder case of Naqeebullah Mehsud highlights how the powerful abuse their power with impunity. Rao Anwar who has allegedly been involved in the unjust killing of Naqeebullah under the guise of an encounter is the latest addition in the list of people who were successful in getting away with their crimes. Since last month, the police have been unable to apprehend Anwar. He was last caught by the FIA trying to flee the country. However, he was set free. The question is: why didn’t the authorities take action when he was first caught by the FIA? It is time the government brought powerful criminals to book to win the trust of the people.
