Shah Rukh Khan, king of Bollywood is always remembered for his roles in his hit films where he is either running after beautiful damsels in distress among green fields and picturesque backgrounds but what nobody has ever talked about, is how dramatic the love story between Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan is.

Apparently, their love story is equally melodramatic at the films in which Shah Rukh has done hit roles. No wonder his own real life love story proved to be a hit when he married the love of his life- Gauri Khan.

It all started on October 25, 1984 when Shah Rukh Khan met Gauri Khan for the third time at an event and mustered the courage to ask her for her number. Shah Rukh’s code name was ‘Shaheen’ with which he used to ask on phone to talk to Gauri. Shah Rukh is reported to attend all the parties where Gauri Khan was expected to attend, in fact he would reach the event well before time in order to not to miss anything.

Shah Rukh claims to be a shy person in real life, the one who couldn’t imagine talking to any girl, let alone asking her out and yet asked out the love of his life after several years of being in love with her.

As is typical of any love story, the duo had their own shares of obstacles that they had to face, were they to exchange vows to live together for the rest of their lives. Both of them belonged to separate religions, Shah Rukh, a Muslim and Gauri, a Hindu, not just this but Gauri Khan belonged to an upper middle class family while Shah Rukh Khan belonged to a middle class family. So differences in religion and social status were two obstacles that the couple would think and worry about endlessly.

While Shah Rukh focused on his acting career, Gauri went on to pursue her passion in fashion designing. In an interview with media, Shah Rukh admits to getting possessive of Gauri and disallowing her from leaving her hair loose as she looked ten times prettier with open hair. But eventually the two got married on October 25, 1991.

As is expected of a desi subcontinental family, it took quite a big part of Shah Rukh’s efforts to convince Gauri’s parents to agree for their marriage. Eventually, they gave them the ultimatum of court marriage upon which Gauri’s parents agreed and the two got married in separate Hindu and Muslim rituals in respect of their religions.

Initially, Gauri didn’t approve Shah Rukh’s inclination toward acting but with the passage of time, she gave in to his love and passion for acting, leading him to become one of the biggest and most unforgettable names in the Indian film industry.
