LOS ANGELES: Casey Affleck, who has been accused of sexual harassment by female film crew members, has withdrawn as a presenter of the best actress award at the Oscar. An official of the organisation told media on Thursday.

The announcement of his withdrawal comes after renewed attention on historic accusations of sexual harassment against the 42-year-old star.

While the sexual harassment allegations were made against Affleck in 2010 during the production of "I'm Not There".

Though his lawyer denied the accusations at the time yet Affleck has said the terms of the settlement prevent him from discussing it.

Hundreds of women are taking to social media sharing their stories of sexual assault using the #MeToo hashtag.

The allegations have been subject to heightened scrutiny in the midst of the #MeToo movement and Affleck's Oscars participation was a lingering question.

Affleck, the younger brother of actor and director Ben Affleck, topped challenges from Denzel Washington and Ryan Gosling to win the 2017 award.
