The executive director of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Dr Seemin Jamali, on Tuesday condemned threats hurled against her on social media and insisted that there was no gunshot or sharp-edged weapon mark on the body of Dr Hasan Zafar when it was brought to the hospital’s emergency department on Sunday morning.

“I was not aware that the body of an elderly person brought to our emergency of is of Prof Hasan Zafar. “There were no gunshot or sharp-edged marks and, due to that, I suspected that he died of natural causes,” Dr Jamali said and added that now some people were cursing her for her initial statement, which was condemnable.

She stated that a group of medico-legal officers examined the body of Prof

Zafar, took its pictures before and after the postmortem examination and found that there were no torture marks on his body.

“Some people are now showing pictures of his body after the postmortem, claiming that I lied and tried to hush up the torture, which is misleading and condemnable.” Dr Jamali said samples from the viscera of the deceased had been sent for chemical examinations to ascertain if any chemical or poison resulted in Prof Zafar’s death. She added that only the chemical examination could reveal the cause of death.
