ISLAMABAD: Askari Greens annexed the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Trust (PVCT) Tournament trophy when they thrashed Mansehra Seniors by 133 runs in the final here at the KRL Stadium.
Askari Greens, batting first, scored 241 for 5 with Tariq Mehmood hitting 112 and Waheed Ahmed contributing 44. Arshad Rehman took 2 wickets for 47. Mansehra Seniors, in reply, were bundled out for paltry 108 in 25.3 overs.
Pakisrtan Army’s Surgeon General Lt Gen Zahid Hameed, who was the chief guest at the final, distributed trophies and cash awards amongst the teams.The winners were awarded Rs One lac while the runners-up got fifty thousand. Tariq Mehmood of Askari Greens emerged as the player of the final. Sajid Rasheed of Mansehra team was named best batsman. Iftikhar Mehmood of Askari Greens was declared as best bowler while Shahzad Bhatti of Lahore and Sajjad Ahmed of Kasur were given special prizes.On the occasion captain of the Askari Greens team Lt. Gen (retd) Syed Absar Ahmed, while greeting his team, also informed that next PVCT event will get under way in January 2018.
