For centuries, environmental pollution has existed, but it turned out to be more evident when industrial revolution took place in the 19th century. Some factors which are responsible for environmental pollution include industrial waste, injurious smoke produced by factories, vehicles which emit harmful gases, excessive use of chemical fertilizers and deforestation. Today, almost every part of the world is facing horrible and irreversible consequences of environmental pollution. Even the developed countries are not safe from its claws. Pollution disturbs the ecosystem and has a negative effect on essential natural resources, including water and air.

During the past few years, Pakistan has witnessed the outbreak of a few life-threatening diseases that were caused by environmental changes. Humans are partly responsible for environmental pollution. We have taken this earth for granted. Industries dump waste in seas. People do not throw garbage in bin. Garbage is burnt right in the middle of residential areas. Although it is the responsibility of the government to draft a policy to deal with the problem, people should also play their role of a law-abiding citizen. Garbage and waste should be properly discarded. On the other hand, the government should heavily fine people and industries who are found guilty of polluting the environment.
