Civil, military institutions owe Rs1.28 bn to KPT, PAC body told

ISLAMABAD: Revelation made before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sub-committee that Wapda as well as the security agencies--ISI, MI, IB, FIA, Anti-Narcotics Force and other departments--have to pay Rs1.28 billion to the Karachi Port Trust.
The PAC sub-committee held its meeting on Thursday with the chair of its convener Shafqat Mehmood and examined the audit paras relating to the Ministry of Port and Shipping and Petroleum Division for the year 2015-16.
Audit officials told the Committee that different 45 departments and agencies have Rs1.28 billion outstanding dues of the Karachi Port Trust and these are defaulters since 1999. The Audit officials told the PAC sub-committee that the different government departments and security agencies have to pay over Rs1.28 billion to the KPT since 1999 while the major chunk of this amount was from Wapda which is over Rs01 billion.
According to Audit officials, the Ministry of Food Security and Research has to pay an amount of Rs8.5 million to KPT; Pakistan Railways has to pay Rs500,000 to the KPT; Naval Dock has to pay Rs91,000 to KPT; Anti-Narcotics Force has to Pay Rs23,000; FIA has to pay Rs283,000 to KPT; Karachi Dock Labour Board has to pay Rs30,000; official of Military Estate has to pay Rs2,000 to the KPT; National Logistic Cell has to pay Rs22,000 to the KPT, regional Metrological Department has to Rs11,000 to the KPT; IB has to pay Rs15,000 to KPT; ISI has to pay Rs193,000 to the KPT, MI has to pay Rs143,000 while Wapda is a major defaulter which has to pay over Rs0I billion to the KPT. The Committee deferred the matter till the next meeting.
