country and if the Army had not stepped in, the country’s security situation would have deteriorated.
Imran further alleged that the focus of the government was not to deliver for the people but to facilitate Nawaz Sharif by shielding him. “The only task of the current government is to hide the corruption of the former prime minister,” he said.
On the Iqama controversy of Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif, Imran Khan said by possessing an Iqama, he (Khawaja Asif) has to work for only five days in Dubai and earn Rs1.7 million salary per month.
He said Iqma is one of the way for money laundering as Khawaja Asif was earning Rs1.7 million as a salary from a company in Dubai as a legal adviser, and according to his Iqama, Khawaja Asif was supposed to do a work for 8-hour daily, five days of week. “How is it possible that a person whose background is of banking, but worked as a legal adviser in the company?” he questioned.
He alleged that transactions of millions of dirhams were transferred into the accounts of wife of Khawaja Asif. “He should tell from where this money come and what was the source of income. It seems the whole family was involved in money laundering.
Imran Khan urged NAB to investigate Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal too since he also possesses an Iqama. He said the Rs10 billion corruption was being done in the country daily, while the domestic debt increased from $13 billion to $25 billion in last four years.
Commenting upon the visit of Qatri prince, Imran Khan said he had arrived in Pakistan to finalise the Port Qasim deal; he had shied away from appearing before the apex court and NAB. “The people should understand why the prince who couldn’t appear before the court has come now,” he added.
He said the government is just focusing on saving a person who has been disqualified; a person who has allegedly looted Rs300 billion from the country. “Mughal-e-Azam Nawaz Sharif wonders why anyone is concerned if his expenditures are in excess of his income,” he said.
He claimed that the government has been taken as a hostage and the only way to solve the crisis is through early elections. “The government is trying to protect former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and there is no government in the country, Nawaz considers himself to be a king,” said the PTI chief.
Imran further shared that holding early elections is commonplace across the globe; this is not a new demand. “Elections strengthen any nation, and incompetent governments like this one weaken it,” Khan said while reiterating this earlier.
He said the PML-N government is incompetent. Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbassi and his cabinet is only puppet. “The country was engulfed in the fire in the post-Faizabad operation while the prime minister was sitting at Raiwind.” He said.
He said that the entire money trail that ousted premier Nawaz Sharif has is a letter of the Qatari prince. The PTI chief claimed that the Qatari prince had no issue to appear before the JIT and security concerns were mere excuses.
In reply to a question of degree issue of PTI's Usman Dar, Imran said: “Usman Dar is not a public office holder and will answer on the issue once he becomes one.” He remarked that the PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz has compared his case to that of Nawaz Sharif. “There is a vast difference between the two cases. Nawaz stole the money of the people. I am being held accountable for an apartment I bought when I was playing cricket.”
Imran Khan said he was a cricketer when he bought the apartment, I was not a public office holder". If anyone of the documents I submitted to the Supreme Court proves to be false I will resign myself,” he remarked, adding, “No one will need to ask me to do so, neither will I ask why I was forced out.” He said the people of Pakistan are looking towards the judiciary now for justice.
