GUJAR KHAN: The hockey and football players in the city have appealed to the Punjab government to stop the construction work being carried out at the Sawaar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed Sports Complex without any delay so that existing football and hockey grounds could be saved from further damage, says a press release.
The players have urged MNA Raja Javed Ikhlas, MPA Iftikhar Warsi, MPA Shaukat Aziz Bhatti, Punjab Sports Steering Committee Chairman Hanif Abbasi and Punjab Sports Board DG Muhammad Amir Jan to immediately halt the work on the project as there are very few grounds in the country and this project will further reduce the number of hockey and football facilities.
Gujar Khan Hockey Club president Javed Akhtar has also requested the government to take practical measures in this regard.
It is pertinent to mention here that the provincial government has allocated Rs70 million for the uplift work on Sawaar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed Sports Complex. The development work includes setting up of flood lights, tube well and construction of pavilion for the cricketers.
