Nawaz appears before accountability court

ISLAMABAD: An accountability court on Wednesday resumed hearing of corruption references against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar today (Wednesday).

According to Geo News, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader reached the court along with his daughter.

The accountability court judge Bashir Ahmed heard the references related to London properties and Azizia Steel Mills.

Scores of PMLN workers gathered outside the court which is located in the Federal Judicial Academy.

A large number of police and paramilitary troops were deployed as part of security arrangements.

The former prime minster have appeared before the court six times while Maryam Nawaz and Captain Safdar eight times each.

During the last hearing the court had granted Sharif and his daughter exemption from proceedings for one week and a month respectively.

The references were filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the wake of Supreme Court orders in Panama Papers case .

The apex court disqualified Sharif from holding the office of prime minister over an undeclared source of income and ordered the NAB to file references against the Sharif family and Ishaq Dar, a close aide to Sharif and finance minister of the country.
