After a successful run in Pakistan and India, Mom, that marked Sajal Aly and Adnan Siddiqui’s Bollywood debut, is all set to release in Russia. The film that has been screened in multiple countries amidst much appreciation will first premiere at a popular film festival in Russia which will be followed by a nationwide release under the title, MAMA. Starring Sridevi, Akshaye Khanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui aside from Aly and Siddiqui, Mom is said to be the biggest Indian release in Russia.

Directed by Ravi Udyawar and with music by A. R. Rahman, Mom opened to rave reviews from critics in Pakistan and India. The film was even screened for consideration for the 75th Golden Globe Awards in the foreign film category.

Dubbed as a mother-daughter drama, the film follows a rape and revenge narrative. Sridevi plays the role of a fearless mother who sets out on a journey to avenge her (step) daughter’s rape. Sajal Aly essays the role of her stepdaughter while Adnan Siddiqui plays Sridevi’s husband in the film. Though rape isn’t an unexplored theme in cinema, Mom tackled the subject in unique fashion and was backed by equally blistering performances. Both Aly and Siddiqui have a substantial role in the film and did complete justice to them, making it a successful international debut.
