With a number of drama serials coming to an end, a series of new projects await viewers in the coming days. Almost every channel is launching its own set of TV plays that aim to bring fresh narratives and characters to life for the drama-watching audience. However, Geo TV stands out with over half a dozen new projects making their way to TV screens this month. Here’s a quick look…

Khaani

Our list begins with one of the most awaited TV serials, Khaani, that stars Feroze Khan and Sana Javed in lead roles and has been directed by Anjum Shahzad. Featuring Javed in the titular role of Khaani and Khan as a son of a politician, the serial aims to shed light on some important social issues aside from featuring an intense love story between the two individuals. With money and power as its central theme, the drama touches upon themes that are relevant to our society such as women empowerment. Apart from Javed and Khan, it also stars Mehmood Aslam, Qavi Khan and Saman Ansari, among others, and is all set to air from tonight.

Manto

Sarmad Khoosat’s critically acclaimed film, Manto, for which the actor-director bagged multiple national and international accolades, has also made its way to television in the form of a drama. The production chronicles the life of Urdu literature giant, Sadat Hasan Manto, who is one of the most controversial figures in subcontinental history. Featuring Khoosat as Manto, the film came out in 2015 and received immense praise from critics while the drama began from November 3 on Geo TV. Other than Khoosat, Manto also stars veteran actors Sania Saeed as his wife, Saba Qamar as Madam Noor Jahaan while Mahira Khan, Yasra Rizvi and Azfar Rehman will be seen in cameo appearances.

Shayad

Starring Uzair Jaswal and Sadia Khan in pivotal roles, Shayad is a love tale that went on air last weekend. It follows the story of a submissive girl, Umm e Hani (Sadia Khan) and a kind hearted guy, Saad (Uzair Jaswal) who meet each other at a young age. Umm e Hani comes to live with Saad and his family after she loses her parents. Saad falls in love with Umm e Hani and mistakes her friendship as love, and this ends up creating issues for both of them. While Umm e Hani doesn’t reciprocate the feelings, the two are forced to part ways. Directed by Syed Ali Raza of Bashar Momin and Khuda Aur Muhabbat fame and written by critically acclaimed novelist, Faiza Iftikhar, Shayad also stars Noman Ijaz as a powerful man who has a strong influence on the lives of others.

Ek Thi Rania

Ek Thi Rania stars Syed Jibran and Sumbul Iqbal and is directed by Abdullah Badini. Iqbal essays the role of an intellectual and talented girl, Rania who always earns good grades in her studies. However, she belongs to a middle class, conservative family who neither pay attention to her achievements nor do they appreciate her. Her classmate, Fahad, essayed by Syed Jibran, is envious of her grades and accolades and conspires against her. He entraps her in an empty relationship in a bid to divert her attention from studies and succeeds in his efforts. And since her family isn’t very supportive of her academic performance either, she surrenders to the circumstances. Produced by Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi, Ek Thi Rania also stars Munawar Saeed, Manzoor Qureshi, Madiha Rizvi and Humaira Bano, among others.
