About one hundred years ago, Indian Muslim soldiers of the 5th Light Infantry revolted against their imperial masters. The rebellion was quelled after a week.
Forty-seven soldiers were subsequently publicly executed in Singapore while 64 others were sentenced to transportation for life. The revolt was led by young men from the villages of Hisar, Rohtak, Meham and Gurgaon districts of the Haryana province. The leaders of the rebellion were Subedar Dande Khan, Jemadar Chisti Khan, Havaldar Rehmat Ali, Sepoy Hakim Ali and Havaldar Abdul Ghani. We should honour our brave.
