Academy Award winning actor Catherine Zeta-Jones seems to be following in the footsteps of Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, both of whom have an Academy Award to their name and starred in a TV show (Big Little Lies) recently. The actor is set to return to the small screen with a Lifetime project called Cocaine Godmother in which she will essay the role of Miami drug lord Griselda Blanco.

The role is unlike anything else the actor has done in recent years and she knows it too. Speaking about the role, she stated: “Griselda spans so many emotions and so many layers, but she has no redeemable qualities. This woman was as ruthless as powerful as dangerous as any man in this very dark world. That she is a woman in this world makes it even more interesting for me.”

The decision to opt for the small screen makes sense to Zeta-Jones who maintains that mid-budget films of Hollywood have disappeared to make room for $200 million blockbusters. “The true human stories are becoming rare in movie theaters.”

And like most actors, Jones has turned to television in the absence of enough good films in Hollywood. “The world has got smaller and the quality has got better, so we’re along on this fantastic creative roller-coaster.”
