Qurram Hussain is having a good run. We’ve seen him score points with fans for his multiple appearances on Cornetto Pop Rock. His equation with Rup Magon/Josh is intact as can be gauged from their joint appearance on the grand finale of 2017 Pepsi Battle of the Bands. The music activity will go on as Hussain has lent his considerable expertise to the soundtrack of the upcoming Pakistani production, Rangreza.
Making his debut as music producer, Hussain has composed the track ‘Bagiya’ for the film, which is sung by Jonita Gandhi, who also features on the OST of Punjab Nahi Jaungi. The sweet-sounding track, featuring a mélange of instruments, is miles away from Hussain’s earlier releases this year and comes off as a sweet-sounding melody with no garish elements, which is significant given the number of over-the-top soundtracks we’ve been hearing lately.
Speaking about the song, Hussain stated in a press statement that he had to step into the space of the character to understand the demands of the song. “I needed to make sure that the song is a happy song, but it needed to be a bit more “traditional” because that’s the type of upbringing she (the character) has had,” he said. “So, the challenge was to transport myself into the character and envision what type of song she would sing.”
The film, starring Urwa Hocane, Bilal Ashraf and Gohar Rasheed as protagonists, is scheduled to appear in cinemas this December and is a music-themed film that has been directed by Amir Mohiuddin.
So far, three songs from Rangreza have been unveiled including one sung by Asrar Shah and another by Abida Parveen. Hussain is involved with four songs that will feature on the film’s soundtrack, and he maintains that each song belongs to a different genre. One upcoming song, for instance, will be a qawwali. “It’s a good learning experience for someone like me” reiterated Hussain. “I have to get out of my comfort zone and have to channel myself onto something different, but you have to find inspiration.”
