While inaugurating work on the supply of natural gas to the villages of Mardan in July 2017, the then federal minister for petroleum and natural resources had stated that the federal government was spending Rs26 billion on the Sui Gas supply projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It may be stated that the gas supply project was a source of immense joy for the people in the area as it had been one of their longstanding demands. The then federal minister added that the government would provide natural gas to more than 2.2 million houses in KP.
Gas supply will not only help resolve the longstanding demand of residents of these areas, but will also help in saving the meagre forest resources of the province from deforestation. It will also help create an environment-friendly atmosphere for residents.
