Navy dominate opening day with 13 gold medals

KARACHI: Navy shooters dominated the opening day of Parvez Abbasi Open Shooting Championship, winning 13 gold medals in the 14 events held here at Pakistan Navy’s Shooting Range in PNS Karsaz on Friday.

Navy also claimed 11 silver and six bronze medals.

Azeem ur Rahman of Sindh clinched gold medal in Big Bore Pistol (Professional) event. Apart from Azeem, Sindh claimed two silver and seven bronze medals.

Shooters competed in Air Pistol (Men’s Junior), Air Pistol (Men’s Youth), Air Rifle (Men’s Junior), Air Rifle (Men’s Youth), Big Bore Pistol Professional Men, .22 Open, Sight Rifle Men, Big Bore Rifle and Iron Sight Men.

Earlier in the day, the competition was inaugurated by Amir Abbassciy, son of late Parvez Abbasi. He fired the first shot at the Pistol Range.

Commodore Ghazanfar Abbas, Director of the championship, welcomed the assembly of participants and encouraged fair play. He shed light on the achievements of late Parvez Abbasi and recognised his efforts in promoting shooting in Pakistan.

Expert marksmen and women from all over the country, including Olympians, regional and national champions are competing in multiple disciplines. —PPI
