The relevant authorities must take notice of the sudden increase in meat prices. The price varies from day-to-day and from vendor-to-vendor. It is unfortunate that the authorities have failed to introduce a proper and permanent system to regulate prices. Last week, one kilogramme of meat was being sold at Rs860. However, this week, the same shop was selling meat at Rs950. Why are vendors allowed to change prices so frequently? The need of the hour is for the concerned authorities to intervene.
Many vendors believe that they are not accountable to anyone and continue to sell eatable items at exorbitant prices to make extra money. Therefore, it is essential that these outlets are supervised and regularly visited. The concerned authorities must carry out surprise visits to these outlets to ensure that vendors are selling items at government-approved prices. People from the middle and lower classes are the ones who suffer the most because of the price hike. In order to provide relief to the people, the relevant authorities must swing in action and supervise all those outlets that are selling meat at high prices.
