Other than campuses at Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore, National Centre for Maritime Policy Research (NCMPR) was established by Bahria University in 2007 to conduct policy level research and analysis in maritime affairs and to act as a national think tank. Since then NCMPR has undertaken multi-disciplinary studies and analysis of maritime affairs and has provided guidelines and solutions to challenges in maritime domain.

It is also imparting quality education in maritime related subjects with highly qualified faculty and advanced standards. With increased focus on maritime interests, and the need to widen the maritime education as well as awareness in the country, Bahria University has now established Institute of Maritime Affairs (IMA) with NCMPR at Karachi and the newly established Maritime Policy Research Centre (MPRC) at Islamabad as it is constituent units. Rear Admiral Mukhtar Khan HI (M) has been appointed as the Director General of IMA.

The establishment of IMA will facilitate achievement of desired objectives and much needed focus on maritime awareness in the country. It also reflects strong resolve of Bahria University to play its role in further developing and exploiting education including maritime and other potentials of the country.
