KARACHI: KMC sports department has been directed by Mayor Waseem Akhtar to organise summer camps for school-going children, ‘The News’ learnt on Sunday.
As Ramazan is over and only one month of school vacations is left, children and their parents are keenly waiting for KMC’s summer camps.
The Mayor has said that KMC was facing a lot of civic issues, but it would facilitate the school children in various sports disciplines at KMC’s sports facilities. KMC has the best sports infrastructure in the metropolitan city.
Swimming is the best activity for children during summer and KMC has three swimming pools. Waseem Akhtar told this correspondent that KMC sports, culture and recreation department has been directed to make arrangements in this regard and the schedule would be announced soon. “We want to give our children healthy environment during the camps and train them in various sports,” the mayor added.
The camps will be held at KMC’s sports complex at Kashmir Road, Women Sports Complex (WSC) for girls in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Landhi sports complex, KMC’s football stadium at Nishtar Road, People’s Sports Complex in Mauripur, and Badar-ul-Hasan Sports complex in Nazimabad.
This year, KMC sports, culture and recreation department has also included paintings, sculpture and music part of its summer camps. These three activities would be held at Kashmir Road sports complex and Women Sports Complex, an official of the department said.
Senior director of the department Saif Abbas said that they would provide a lot of facilities to entertain the children under the supervision of qualified and processional coaches and experts of paintings and sculpture.
“We have two swimming pools: one at Kashmir Road and the other at Women Sports Complex,” he said.
The Landhi sports complex also has a swimming pool, but it could not be confirmed if it would be used.Abbas said KMC would try its best to make that pool available for children.
He said that all details about registration in these summer camps would be announced soon. He said that football was fast gaining popularity among school children. “We are organising two summer camps for this purpose.Qualified football coaches will provide coaching to children at KMC football stadium Nishtar Road and People’s Sports Complex in Mauripur,” he said.
Women Sports Complex has all indoor games facilities. Yoga classes will also be organised under the supervision of experts for girls. Schools’ administrations have been asked to contact the department for participation of girls in the camp at the Women Sports Complex.
