Rs850m fixed for human rights, minorities

The Human Rights and Minorities Affairs have been allocated Rs850 million for the upcoming fiscal year development budget, which is 5.6 percent more than the previous year’s Rs800 million allocation.

Under the last year’s budget scholarships were awarded to minorities all over the Punjab. Additionally three ongoing schemes of HR& MA development were completed during fiscal year during 2016-17. Various development schemes proposed by minority MPAs were completed. Moreover, successful completion of schemes titled “Awareness of Human Rights” all over the Punjab.

While targets for financial year 2017-18, Rs850 million will be utilised for different schemes; Rs808 million will be spent on four new schemes; Rs600 million will be spent on development schemes for minorities; Rs25 million for educational scholarship for minority students phase-I. For public awareness of human rights Rs10 million will be spent for fiscal year 2017-18. A sum of Rs2 million will be spent on the construction of church building at Sabzazar Cantt, district Rawalpindi; Rs25 million required for Gurdwara Kartar Sahib in Narowal, Rs10 million for construction of church in district Sheikhupura. Vision of the government is to protect human rights & minority affairs in Punjab and improve civic amenities in localities having predominant minority’s population through development resources.
