This refers to the article, ‘The slum lords of Islamabad’ (May 15, 2017). The writer says of Imran Khan’s property in Bani Gala: “that makes his total property here worth almost Rs2,100 million. Ironically, this is almost equal to the worth of the controversial apartment owned by the Sharif family in London”.
How has the writer chosen to equate PTI Chairperson Imran Khan’s legitimately acquired and declared piece of land with the properties purchased by the prime minister and his family through totally unjustifiable resources and which is a public crime? A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has been constituted by the Supreme Court into the matter of the London properties. The construction at Bani Gala by Imran Khan is completely in line with the laws and every documentary proof is available regarding it. The fact is that Imran Khan is the one who wrote to the chief justice of Pakistan and called for judicial intervention over illegal/unplanned constructions in Bani Gala. The CJP subsequently took notice of this matter of grave public importance.
