This is to draw the attention of the concerned authorities to the illegal occupation of footpaths by hawkers. In most areas of Karachi, pedestrians cannot walk on footpaths. Instead, they walk on roads disrupting the smooth flow of traffic, leading to traffic jams. Motorists take hours to reach at their destinations. In many places in the city, footpaths do not technically exist, they are either too narrow for people to walk on or have been encroached by hawkers. These illegal hawkers interrupt the smooth flow of traffic at times leading to road accidents.
It is unfortunate that authorities have done nothing about this illegal occupation. Frequent traffic jams affect the lives of the people. The distance that can ideally be covered in minutes is covered in hours. It is time the government took serious action against these hawkers.
