ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Andleeb Abbas has called on Prime Minister’s Office to provide ‘certified information’ on the ‘misuse of authority and abuse of taxpayers’ money by (Prime Minister’s daughter) Maryam Nawaz’, as she questions her meetings with diplomats and foreign dignitaries.
She wrote a letter to the Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary, in which she said, the misuse of authority by Maryam Nawaz and the abuse of taxpayer’s money is a matter of corrupt and illegal practices”.
“Being the citizen of Pakistan and a taxpayer, under the Article 19-A of the Constitution of Pakistan and Free of Information Ordinance, 2002, I Andleeb Abbas, need certified information regarding misuse of Prime Minister office by his daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who does not hold any public office or official position and is not even an elected representative,” she wrote in the letter.
The five questions asked in the letter are:
In what capacity is Maryam Nawaz giving official stances on national security issues?
In what capacity is Maryam Nawaz, who is not an elected representative, giving official stances on national security issues,” she asked. She added that Maryam’s clarification of Jindal’s visit to Sharif family as a personal/friendly meeting was denied by Jyoti Malhotra, who explained that the Indian steel magnate had come with Indian Premier Narendar Modi’s message regarding Kulbhushan Jadav. Why has the ministry of information not taken an action against this embarrassment, the PTI leader questioned?
Why is the Strategic Media Communication Cell, which employs more than 90 people, run by Maryam Nawaz?
Why are these people being paid from taxpayers’ money she asked.
Why is this cell, that is being used for PML-N propaganda, funded out of taxpayer’s money?
“The government has allocated record Rs8.3 billion for the Information Ministry for 2016-17. Why are these 90 people misusing public funded PM office, PID office, cabinet block, PM Secretariat Raiwind office and the Ministry of Planning, P Block and R Block,” she asked.
In what capacity does Maryam Nawaz meet foreign ambassadors/dignitaries when she does not hold any official position?
All her meetings are arranged in Prime Minister House. This is misuse of taxpayer’s money as just the entertainment/refreshment expense of PM house is Rs10 million, she further questioned.
Why has Maryam Nawaz made Pakistan a laughing stock in the international community by declaring Panama Leaks trash?
The ICIJ journalists have exposed this statement by showing her own passport and daring her to show her original documents. This is not only declaration but also a contempt of court as the Supreme Court is spending its best resource and time on the Panama Leaks case, the letter read.
PTI leader has demanded of the principal secretary to provide her with certified information and respond to the questions within 21 days. “A non-response is a violation of my rights as a citizen and a clear dismissal of democratic norms,” she emphasisd.
