BANNU: The transporters on Saturday staged a protest against the ban on the entry of heavy vehicles and unjust fines and blocked the Bannu-Kohat road for traffic.

They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands. District Councillor belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Malik Gul Baz Khan and others were leading the protesters.

The protesters blocked the busy road which resulted in the long queues of vehicles and caused immense hardship to commuters to reach their destinations.

The speakers said that the transporters had agreed to the ban on entry of heavy vehicles to the city and not to the entire district.

They alleged that the traffic cops imposed heavy fines on the transporters which they termed unjust.

They urged the police high-ups to take note of the traffic police excesses release the arrested transporters and transfer In-charge Traffic Police Amanullah Khan or else they would continue their protest.
